A garage door works harder in the cold, even though nothing about the door itself has changed. Cold stiffens the moving parts

Frost and condensation can blind the safety sensors

In summer, low sun washes out the photo-eye sensors near the floor. In fall and winter, the culprit is usually condensation or a thin skin of frost on the lenses after a cold, damp night — the opener reads it the same way it reads anything else blocking the beam, and refuses to close or reverses partway down. Wipe both lenses dry with a soft cloth and check that they're still aimed squarely at each other; a nudge from a broom or a bike handlebar is all it takes to knock one out of line. A frozen bottom seal can hold the door shut

After a freeze-thaw cycle, water that pooled under the bottom seal can refreeze and glue the rubber to the concrete slab.
